The VAC-516 was a twinjet fighter that had engines in nacelles. Derived from the Gloster Meteor, it was small but carried preformance and speed. VAC-516 fighters were the most numerous jets of its time, on top of the VAC-444 and the VAC-160. Having airbrakes mounted under the engines and a lightweight structure with an all-metal shell, the VAC-516 was considered invincible. However, carrier power slowly arose, making the demand for V/STOL aircraft slowly higher. VAC-516s however were used in the 2003 Iran War and other short wars. VAC-516 fighter jets were still part of the Jet Age and were a popular jet in the Cold War.
