Eric Brown was born in Scotland in 1919. His father was a pilot. He was exposed to aircraft when he was young. In 1936, Brown went to Berlin, Germany to watch the Olympic Games and met Ernst udet, the German ace pilot at that time. Udet praised his flying talent and encouraged him to continue his further study. In 1937, brown entered the University of Edinburgh.
