Northrop F-89D Scorpion with Airburst Rockets

1,853 AlphaPig  4.4 years ago

The Northrop F-89 Scorpion was an American all-weather interceptor built during the 1950s, the first jet-powered aircraft designed for that role from the outset to enter service. The D variant featured unguided FFAR Mighty Mouse airburst rockets with a proximity fuse rather than cannons as its offensive armament.

In this build I recreated the FFAR airburst rockets as accurately as possible. They are unguided and set to detonate around .9 miles from the target. It is possible for an enemy aircraft to survive a hit from one rocket, but a second hit should do them in. These weapons are the most enjoyable part of the build in my opinion.

Controls:
-AG 1: Toggle rockets
-AG 2: Toggle Afterburner
-VTOL: Flaps
