yes, you see this right.
this is an F7B used as a normal locomotive.
this is real btw.
Haysi Railroad bought an F7B (for god knows why) and added a makeshift cab and bell to it to run in its tiny terminal switching area. the engine served the railroad alone from 1970 to 1977 when the railroad was leased SD18s and SD9s. but it still served the railroad till closure where it ended up in preservation at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum , albeit in a derelict and semi-forgotten state.

i have no fucking clue why they bought an F7B instead of something normal to use for SWITCHING.
and a little history on the engine before it became this, this used to be an F3B serving on the Clinchfield Railroad, before they upgraded it into an F7B. after F7s were retired this engine was scooped up by this railroad before they had their fun.
edit, a thing we all looked over, this engine was remote controlled. most of the time, I think. There is very little information on this engine.

aw just realized a tiny error in the engine.
the windows along the side of the engine are not chrome they are painted yellow.
please fix that if you want.
Ah a fellow train enjoyer I see
@Boeing727200F damn it's remote controlled?
@YarisHatchback but still why B unit. Even though it is remote controlled and constantly covered in coal why not get like 2 F7As or something like that?
@Boeing727200F ahhh, now that i think about it, it makes sense actually
@YarisHatchback well if you look at the real engine it is covered in coal dust as of course it works in a coal plant/terminal. So I think they wanted a cab unit so that coal doesn’t cover fucking everything important, but why did they buy a B unit out of all things?
@Boeing727200F well yeah that's the issue, how come they could turn an f7b into a "locomotive" and yet they couldn't even buy a sw1 from the secondhand market?
@YarisHatchback but the second hand market?
You could have gotten a cheep SW1 on the second hand market.
the haysi railroad is definitely on smth, though tbf dedicated switcher engines are kinda expensive so...
@Boeing727200F WHY WOULD THEY NOT DO THAT NOW THE TRAIN WILL HAVE TO USE THE TURNTABLE TO USE SHORT HOOD GRRRRRRRRR
@Nitsu sorry to burst your bubble they didnt.
Did they at least make it a double cab ? (Cab on both end) pls say they made it double cab
@Boeing727200F this is so cool!
