submission for Rob119's T-72 Challenge
The T-72BVT is a modernized variant of the Soviet-designed T-72 main battle tank, developed specifically for use by the 4th Wzekh Tank Brigade.
The tank is powered by a 1,200 horsepower V-92S2F diesel engine, providing improved mobility and acceleration.
Composite armor and "Alta" explosive reactive armor (ERA) panels are mounted on the turret and hull for increased protection against kinetic and shaped-charge threats.
The T-72BVT retains the 125mm but being upgraded to the 2B4Z Variant being able to mount HE, APFSDS
A redesigned autoloader reduces reload times and improves ammunition handling safety.
Secondary armament includes a coaxial 7.62mm PKT machine gun and a 12.7mm 65PD machine gun
The tank is equipped with an upgraded communications suite for integration into the brigade's C4ISR network.
NBC protection systems have been modernized for operations in chemically or radiologically contaminated environments.
New digital diagnostics aid in maintenance and allow for condition-based servicing.
The T-72BVT entered limited service in 2023 and is currently fielded exclusively by the 4th Wzekh Tank Brigade. It is estimated that approximately 327 T-72BVTs have been made and upgraded from wzekhstan's 784 aging T-72s since 2024.
The deployment of the T-72BVT by the 4th Wzekh Tank Brigade has been a subject of regional controversy.
Neighboring states have raised concerns over the platform’s advanced capabilities and potential for rapid cross-border mobilization.
Analysts argue that the tank's exclusive use by a single brigade suggests a concentration of offensive power.
The Wzekh government maintains that the T-72BVT is strictly a defensive asset intended to modernize its aging armored fleet.
