Oh, here comes another lazy variants. To be honest, my mind is pretty much set on heavily modifying my existing planes right now.

Variante Co. presents you the
F-20X Banshee

The Variante F-20X Banshee started its life in 2092 as the Southrop F-20 Tigershark, a successor for the F-5E Tiger II. But after years of designing, Southrop's Tigershark was put up in a compettitin with Uncommon Dynamics' F-16 Fighting Falcon in which the latter won, leaving the Tigershark as a mere footnotes in Southrop's history....

But that has changed, in 2145 Variante Co., known for redesigning many of the already existing designs for better performance has took notice upon the Tigershark's presence after their group of inspector laid eyes on one of the Tigershark at Granit Museum of Aeronautics. Quickly, Variante Co. contacted Southrop about buying the design in which Southrop, seeing that selling a 53 years old design would make no different from keeping it, agreed.

Variante Co. then swiftly analyzed the structure of the Tigershark and the redesigning plan took a total of 2 years to be fabricated with the aim to make the plane capable of putting up a good fights against modern aircraft while keeping operating cost low, hence, its status as a light fighter. The F-20X was finally born

Redesign details

Starting from head to tail

Compared to the Tigershark which has a platypus like nose, the Banshee has made the nose cone rounder for aerodynamic purpose and a new Oracle Inc. AN/APG-177 radar has been been chosen for the fit in the nose cone with the downside being that they have to move the 2 nose cannon somewhere else.

The wing strake also has changed a lot by extending it all the way towards the root of the radar, in similiar fashion to the Su-27 and its variants. The wing strake extension would give the aircraft extra lift and shift the CoA forward resulting in more agility
The Intakes is now larger, and instead of having a wing sticking out of it, is now placed on top of the wing strake.
The 2 nose cannon is now placed within the wing strake, in front of the intakes.
The gun also had an upgrade in RPM and is now intentionally made to have higher spread to compensate for the change in gun's convergence

Moving onto the main fuselage, Modernization calls for a removal of external hardpoints, So Variante Co. blessed the Banshee with 6 internal, sperating into 2 compartment with 3 hardpoints each, positioned in front of and behind the landing gears. This changes made the plane more aerodynamic than even before

Flare launchers has also been mounted between the 2 landing gears

The main wing has also undergone major adjustment which makes the Banshee just a tad bit larger than the Tigershark

Unlike the Tigershark and the Tiger, Variante Co. opted to have the control surfaces the entire length of the main wing instead of 3/4 of the main wing. Given this 2/3 of the control surfaces has been given to flaps and the remaining 1/3 remains as an aileron which can put out impressive roll rate despite its size. The outer part of the wing had also been canted upwards by 5 degrees.

The reason for the 2/3 of the entire length being dedicated to flaps is for the purpose of decreasing distance and speed needed to land the aircraft if the pilot are faced with settling the plane down on a short runway. This increase in flaps along with the tail hooks have also given the Banshee the ability to land on carriers.

The old engine has also been replaced with the new Uncommon Dynamics FE-223-GE-147 afterburning turbofan engine capable of propelling the aircraft up to 1020mph on the deck at full power.
Though speed is somewhat lacking for year 2150 air combats, the Banshee habe its excellent accelerationa and decelleration rate that can be deadly in the right hand. Finally, the Elevator has been moved up higher than the main wing and is canted 5 degrees downward.

This modification as a whole gave the Banshee a significantly improved speed, agility, weaponry and avionics over the F-20 Tigershark. The aircraft has made is maiden flight 2148 and as of 2149 is now in service of and being mass produced by the Argentan Federation.
