First sub-sonic anti-ship airborne missile, design by GW co. and produce by Norinco. Entered service in 1990 and primary use by PLAN (People Liberation Army Navy), often mounted on or carried by warship hunter aircraft.
It was design to be low cost as cheap as possible, making it unreliable but have enough efficiency to operate, the reason is to make it mass produce. Around 90,000 numbers of CM-72 anti-ship missiles was manufactured during year 2001.
