The reason for the creation: due to the impossibility of hitting the sides and the roof with GAU-8 30mm guns, it was decided in New Germany to create a new attack aircraft, drawing on past experience with the A-10 Thunderbolt, it was decided to place an 8.8cm gun on the plane, 8.8cm was chosen for symbolism, since the caliber of a gun of just such a caliber was the best in the period of the Second World War.
This gun can effectively destroy tanks from two kilometers to the side and the roof, which could not 30mm GAU-8.
Also, this cannon can quite well destroy small-sized vessels, and destroy destroyers when a shell hits the wheelhouse.
