Description

The Aichi E13A1 (Allied reporting name: "Jake", Naval designation name: Navy Type Zero Reconnaissance Seaplane)
Was a ww2 era Japanese, single engine, three crew, long range reconnaissance floatplane

Development and use of the Jake

The plane was designed in answer to a request by the Japanese army to design a floatplane with the capacity to be launched from a catapult, land with its pontoons and to reduce space usage the Jake featured folding wings

The Jake was used from 1941 to the end of the war and by the Thai and French airfoces a few years after ww2. Despite many planes of the era receiving many updates through the war Tha Jake received almost none. It was used in reconnaissance, bombing, personal transport and possibly kamikaze attacks

Historical occasion

Jake from heavy cruiser "chikuma" flown by Akira Ito. On the 7/12/41 this plane flew 30 minutes before the first attack wave on pearl harbor to find the American fleet
