To launch: you must set engines to 1% only. Faster brakes things, slower means less altitude. With engines at 1% wait until you are at 500 feet, raise landing gear, and detach 1. Then Engines to max asap. The speed is so great that it looks like its going to tear itself apart. Control surfaces fail at these speeds. The earth dissapears pretty much instantly.
