The first MFN-1A was built for the US Navy in 1949 to fulfill its requirement for a carrier-capable multirole jet fighter. Due to its low speed, it was usually used in a ground-attack role, although it could be used fighter. It saw combat in the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and multiple others flying with other countries including the UK and France. It underwent many upgrades during it's lifetime. Its suspended armament originally included bombs, torpedoes, and rockets. It later could be outfitted with air to air missiles, air to ground missiles, and gunpods.
