Mk.I Light Tank Destroyer "Lasius"

39.4k Zero0Two2  1.2 years ago

Main description

The Mk.I Light Tank Destroyer is one of the tanks that the Polish army used in the early stages of World War 2, it was named "Lasius" (a ant species) due to its small size and deadly combat record of destroying Panzer III/IV tanks, its combat ratio was 5:1.

History

When World War 2 started, the Poland needed new tank designs desperately because the germans at the time were slowly having more stronger tanks, like the Panzer III/IV, Stug, and later on, the Tiger and Panther.

The Mk.I Light Tank Destroyer was first proposed, and was modified to meet what was needed, a small size similar to the Hetzer, and a fast firing 50mm anti tank gun to arm it.

Prototype testing initiated and had a pretty surprising performance, it was very easy to conceal within the forest, combined with the mobility means that it can run away incase it was being fired at and relocate.

In combat service, it proved exactly what it was in testing, deadly, and small.

The Germans were so bothered by these tank destroyers they called them "Ameisenjäger", or "ant hunter"

Overall, the Lasius was a very successful tank destroyer and was excellent in all aspects and was what the Polish needed in the war.

@Yeetuscheese not necessarily, but I find the idea of taking people's builds and putting zero effort in them not good and ever
