J -16 (English: J-16 multirole fighter) is a four-generation semi-two-seat dual-engine multi-role fighter developed by Shenyang Aircraft Company of China based on J -11BS[5]. The shape of the aircraft refers to the Russian Su -30MKK multi-role fighter. The J -16 is equipped with active electronic scanning phased array radar (AESA), which can identify and attack multiple targets at the same time. It has the capability of long-range over-the-horizon air combat and powerful capability of striking the ground and sea. Compared with JH -7, JH -16 has a larger body with a maximum bomb load of 12 tons, and can launch air-to-air missiles such as Thunderbolt -10 and Thunderbolt -15, Eagle Strike -83, Eagle Strike -91 and Air-to-Ground -88. This aircraft is equipped with a Chinese-made turbofan -10 "Taihang" engine, and its performance is comparable to the latest F-15EX multi-role fighter in the United States. The J -16 made its first flight in Shenyang on October 17th, 2011. At the beginning of 2013, China officially announced the fighter.
