Blackburn Tigershark

4,755 Alien  4.5 years ago

Once again going with an alternate universe Blackburn creation.

After the Broadsword proved so capable, the Royal Navy approached Blackburn to design a small, point-defence fighter to defend its carrier force from enemy attacks. This aircraft was the company's response, relatively small and agile with two underwing hardpoints and two 3mm Aden cannon mounted either side of the nose.

The front view with the gaping intake and the menacing cannon housings gave the new creation its name - Tigershark.

Powered by a single 6,700 lbf (30 kN) axial flow Rolls-Royce Avon turbojet with reheat, the new fighter proved to be a bit of a handful at first, but pilots soon came to love its exhilarating performance and no-nonsense handling.

The heavy-duty landing gear permitted operation from unprepared grass airstrips as well as carriers, meaning that it could also take on a tactical support role from hastily prepared forward airstrips.
