Dornier Do 192 "Falke"

A prototype jet engine fighter, design for medium range recon and intercepting heavy bomber, use by Nazi Germany in 1944.

Background

By 1943, Germany's airspace was under increasing threat from heavy Allied bombing raids. Despite efforts by piston-engine fighters like the Bf 109 and Fw 190, they struggled to cope with massive bomber formations protected by long-range escorts. In response, the Luftwaffe sought a next-generation interceptor capable of high speed, medium-range operations, and night-time engagement.

Dornier Flugzeugwerke was tasked with developing a prototype jet-powered fighter that could supplement the Messerschmitt Me 262 but with better endurance and reconnaissance capability. The project was designated Dornier Do 192.
