Grumman F-14D Super Tomcat (Shirakami Fubuki)

49.3k ZeroWithSlashedO  1.1 years ago

Kon Kon Kitsune~! Zerø here! Today, I deliver to you a VTuber livery in an "authentic" Navy style livery.

Tomcat!
Yeah, I've made this.
Surprised? Probably not to be honest.

Introduction:

The Grumman F-14D Super Tomcat is an american twin-engined, tandem two-seated, swing wing, carrierborne, air superiority fighter. This variant in particular is the latest variant in the Tomcat family line. The F-14 has proven it's worth many times before, and was retired on September of 2006 and replaced by the F/A-18E Super Hornet. The F-14 line is also the only aircraft capable of launching the heavyweight BVR air to air missile, AIM-54 Phoenix.

History:

During the late 1950, the Navy seeked of a long-range, long-endurance, air superiority aircraft to defend their Carrier Strike Group from long range anti ship missiles launched from bombers. Their most capable fighter, the F-4 at the time was not enough. This led to the Navy participating in the TFX (Tactical Fighter Experimental) program, along with the USAF. This program led to the F-111 Aardvark.

The Aardvark proved to be a capable FAD (Fleet Air Defense) platform, but being designed as a Fighter-Bomber meant that it didn't excel at the air to air aspect. This led to the Navy eventually issuing their own program: the Naval Fighter Experimental (VFX) program. This program led to the Grumman F-14A Tomcat.

The Tomcat was what the Navy needed at the time. But it had some issues, as the engines were unreliable. This issue led to Grumman upgrading their F-14A with the new engines made by General Electric, the F110. This upgraded variant was dubbed the F-14A+. This was later changed in May of 1991, and was dubbed the F-14B. The F-14 also received air-to-ground upgrades in 1990.

Several upgrades were given to the F-14B, before the first F-14D rolled around 1991. The F-14D received massive upgrades, including a glass cockpit, upgraded engines, new avionics such as an Infrared Search and Track, a new radar, and more.

About Pilot/Livery:

The livery is inspired by the hololive member named Shirakami Fubuki, a white human-like fox, which debuted as a part of hololive's 1st Generation in 21st of June, and shortly also became a part of hololive GAMERS. As of currently, she is the only member who is affiliated with two generations (this is reflected on the livery through the labels).

Personality wise, she's a very energetic and charming one. She's always being cheerful and excited, as reflected on her streams. However, she also has a very ruthless side to her, particularly shown during her "Project Winter" stream. She's also well known for her friendzoning skills, as proven multiple times when an overseas fan would ask her if she can be their wife. She would answer "No, friend!" everytime.

Activate3: Deploy Tail Hook
Activate4: Activate External Lighting
Activate5: Deploy Airbrakes

Features:
  • Auto Wing Sweep adjustment! You don't have to manually adjust it for yourself.

Oh, yeah, today's the first day of hololive 4th fest Expo. I can't afford the tickets and I'm also underaged to go alone, so I can't go there.

But, apart from that, that's all from me. OtsuKon, see you in 5 hours or so later (because I have another livery I'm going to publish), and as always...

    @ZeroWithSlashedO
Hi Zero, I have made a "fixed" version with handling changes and some other tweaks that might appeal to more players.

could I post the aircraft as a successor?

    The changes I made were:
decreased wing loading to around 60 lbs/ft^2
decreased drag to below 2000 drag points
added a strong airbrake(clipped inside fusalage)
increased Power/weight ratio to ~0.7 similar to the f14D version
    fixed the spoiler
    and few other small tweaks

Tbh I thought the handling was alright, many of these changes I made myself before reading the comments because I am a big tomcat fan.
I think this could be one of the best tomcats on the site because of the very accurate proportions.
    Thanks for the awesome tomcat!
Edit: I have posted the tweaked aircraft but I will remove the post if ZeroWithSlashedO wants it removed. All credit goes to Zero.

@ZeroWithSlashedO, sry to get your feelings up in a bind was never meant to be insulting, was just suggesting that you increase the engine power. With that said you got a sick airframe no doughts about that.

@ZeroWithSlashedO And I didn’t say anything mean, I was just giving something called ‘constructive criticism’ I said I liked the design and how it’s weaponised so before you call me a little shit, actually have a proper look at my message 😤
