The Maklusov Ma-8 was the first Bohemian jet fighter. The main fuselage was that of Maklusov Ma-7 piston-engine fighter modified to mount a NP-1A engine. The Ma-8`s development was heavily reliant on its ground-breaking turbojet engines, pioneered by Nova Praha Motors. Development of the aircraft began in 1945, although work on the engines had been under way since 1944. The Ma-8 first flew in 1945 and commenced operations on 27 July 1946.
