P-49 Charger

4,880 JB56  1.7 years ago

This layout does offer some cooling challanges, but the P-49 Charger overcomes these issues with a series of intracate cooling ducts, fans, and cowl flaps.
The engine and weapons all being located foward of the cockpit allows for a very large internal fuel tank to be installed in the fuslage. This is supplmented by a large set of droppable wing tanks.
With such a large engine and loads of fuel, the P-49 finds its self at home at high altitudes in extra long flights. The aircraft can easily take off from avalanche airport, fly over all of the main islands, circle the Pyramid of Et, and then return to Avalanche on cruise power with no issues.
The layout also benifits the loading of the aircraft, with the large fuel tank and engine being very close to the wing.
This moves the CG much closer to the wings than an aircraft with a traditional layout. Due to this, manevurability is increased.

I do not own any VR equipment so i do not know if it is VR capible, but the required cockpit controls are all in place.

The cockpit has a standard layout with functioning dials and controls thanks to the recent cockpit update.

This view of a Charger on the runway shows the large air inlet cut away in the nose as well as the cowl flaps on top of and under the fuslage to keep the engine cool.

A detailed cutaway showing the engine, its cooling system, fans, and the nose mounted weapons.

A quick kill on a landing enemy aircraft.

Another happy landing.

Enjoy!

@SimpleTankers yes, the Corsair had the arrestor hook for carrier landings. The charger is mainly ground based so the hook was omitted from the design

@NobleMobileUser it has the same landing issues that the Corsair had, however longer land based runways should mitigate that issue.

That stout nose looks like a big issue for landing visibility, but it looks very nice, good job!
