Sisu (SAT) P-41 Light Tank

5,795 DragonAerotech  8.0 years ago

The Sisu (SAT) P-41 Light Tank (The "P-" prefix was used on account of the Finnish word for Tank, "Panssari,") was introduced to counter the formidable Soviet BT series of Fast Cavalry Tanks which was commonly employed during the Winter War as well as the Continuation War. Powered by a license produced Maybach HL 38 TR producing 100 HP, the new light tank would be armed with a 4 cm KwK 28 L/60 (40 mm Bofors L/60,) outfitted with a muzzle brake, a coaxial LKK/42 12.7 mm Heavy Machine-Gun (Pre-war license production of the Browning M2) and a hull mounted anti-infantry 7.92 mm Mauser Cartridge MG 137(t). The more heavily armored P-41 allowed the Maavoimat (Finnish Army) to engage T-26 and BT-7 vehicles directly in most situations and emerge victorious. Within two years of the introduction of the P-41 Finland achieved great gains until the Soviets began to divert newer and heavier tanks to the Northeastern front.

The Finns were pushed back several times by the Russian Army, nearly to their pre-war positions before the Maavoimat began fielding the first Sisu (SAT) P-44a & b Medium Tank types in the field and once again pushed the Soviet lines aggressively. The Sisu (SAT) P-41 Light Tank gradually became relegated to an Infantry Support & Scout Tank role or were withdrawn to be converted to ammo carriages, tank destroyers, assault guns and mobile anti-aircraft batteries.

Operations:

Forward & Reverse - Pitch
Steering - Roll
Brake ...

Bear in mind this is a 16 and 3/4 ton vehicle, maximum safe speed to drive is 25-40 mph depending on terrain. On declines speed will quickly get away from you. Use engine braking or brakes to keep within a safe margin. Be aware also that despite only having a 100HP engine its speed can also get away from you if accelerating thoughtlessly. Tanks were not meant to be speed demons, least of all those built with a narrow wheel base so that it could utilize narrow roadways where available.

AG 1 - Activates the turret, VTOL to rotate, Trim to elevate and decline the two primary weapons.
AG 2 - Activates the 12.7 mm Machine Gun.
AG 3 - Activates the 40 mm Auto-Cannon.
AG 4 - Activates the hull mounted 7.92 mm machine gun; Use Yaw to pivot the field of fire side to side.
AG 5 - Headlights & tail lights.
AG 6 - Right turn signal.
AG 7 - Left turn signal.

Notes: The tracer colors for these weapons are, to the best of my knowledge historically accurate. The rate of fire, calibers, projectile weights and so on for the Browning M2, the Czech version of the Lewis Machine Gun which used the 7.92 mm Mauser ammo - same as many German Machine-Guns and the 40 mm Bofors L/60 have been adjusted accordingly for historical accuracy.

Although Finland had minimal direct combat against the other allies as their war was one of defending Finland from the expansionist policies of the Soviet Union in reality, with the success of Operation Sealion and the stages of combat that have followed, Finland was forced under diplomatic pressure to declare war on the remaining allies - further cementing their fate to Nazi Germany.

Finally, this build is for @General360 role-play alternate WW2 history. This vehicle, despite the attention to historical accuracies with its weaponry, is fictional.

@TheOwlAce Go for it! ^_^ I got it from a parts group from someone else but now that I've seen the coding I can make a gazillion of 'em in all shapes and sizes. XD Nah, I'm not better at this in fact your' tanks with internally sprung wheels are just as good as one with a suspension system built in - perhaps better as there's a lower part count so no lag and it makes it mobile friendly.
