Project VEP-1
The VEP project was developed primarily as a way to experiment with and optimize the performance level of the platform provided by Volotok Aeronautics.
The project consists of four aircraft, all of which are fighters primarily focused on interception due to Frostia's large territory and increased tensions following the government crisis. Initiated in 1952, the VEP project began with a captured MiG-15 from North Korea. After modifications and updates were made through the theft of information from the Soviet MiG-19 and 21 project, the aircraft was completed.
Although it was rarely used after retiring in 1962, it was already being replaced by more modern fighters, such as the VEP-1 3rd Gen Mod. This fighter was the result of espionage on the Chinese J-8 fighter series. This helped the VEP project engineers understand how to adapt such modifications.
The VEP-1 2nd Gen Mod. saw limited use since Frostia (by the FLAF) did not engage in many conflicts. However, the aircraft saw action through the EAF in the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War, as well as through the MPLA in the Angolan Civil War. In both cases, the VEP-1 2nd Gen Mod. operated as a ground attack aircraft, having been relegated from its role of hunting enemy aircraft.
