Based on the Japanese-designed Hawker 400 business jet, and replacing the North American T-39 Sabreliner, the T-1 Jayhawk has been used for training future transport and tanker pilots since 1992. USAF Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) students transition into the T-1 after progressing from basic flight training in the T-6 Texan II.
