The A-4C Skyhawk, serving with Attack Squadron 153 (VA-153), represented an evolution of the earlier Skyhawk variants, maintaining its reputation as a compact, lightweight, and highly maneuverable subsonic fighter-bomber. Developed by Douglas Aircraft, the A-4C introduced key advancements in avionics, radar, and operational capabilities to meet the growing demands of naval aviation during the Cold War era.

Powered by a Wright J65-W-20 turbojet engine, the A-4C had a top speed of 670 mph (1,079 km/h) and a maximum ordnance capacity of 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg) across five hardpoints. It retained the two fixed Colt Mk 12 20mm cannons for close-in firepower and could deliver a versatile array of weapons, including bombs, rockets, and missiles.

Key upgrades in the A-4C included an APG-53A radar system, an improved all-weather navigation suite, and enhanced mission flexibility. This made the A-4C a reliable platform for attack missions, reconnaissance, and close air support. The aircraft was prominently used during the Vietnam War, where VA-153 (known as the "Blue Tail Flies") conducted numerous missions, showcasing the A-4C’s versatility, durability, and ease of maintenance.
