Brief History of The MRAP-270A Wolf
The MRAP-270A "Wolf", is an American armored self-propelled multiple launch rocket system. The U.S. Army variant of the MRAP-270A is based on the chassis of the Rheinmetall MRAP-1A Coyote. The MRAP in the name stands for Mine-resistant ambush protected vehicle. The MRAP-270A is a 6X6, self-propelled, and armored artillery platform capable of firing a large volume of rockets or missiles from a distance.
Key features:
Ammunition:
Can fire a wide variety of rockets and missiles, including the Unguided MLRS (2B26M3) family of munitions and the long-range, precision-guided tactical ballistic missile (9K278M2 Iskandar).
Capability:
Its "shoot and scoot" capability allows the three-person crew to quickly fire its rockets and relocate before the enemy can determine its position.
Modernization:
The U.S. Army and other countries are upgrading existing MRAP-270A to the MRAP-270A2 standard, which includes a new fire control system to support next-generation munitions.
Dual pod system:
It carries two pods of rockets. Each pod typically holds six Unguided Multiple Launch Rocket System (G
MLRS) rockets, for a total of 12 rounds. Alternatively, the pods can be configured to hold larger missiles, such as the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS).
Precision and range:
Originally designed for saturation fire, modern variants have been upgraded to fire a variety of precision-guided munitions with a range of up to 300 km. Future munitions, such as the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), will extend its range even further.
