HISTORY

The ZIL-178 was a cheap and sophisticated solution to the demand for a new lightweight truck to general purposes in the early 70's in the USSR. Packed with a 95HP inline six diesel engine capable of hauling up to 4 tons of cargo, the vehicle rapidly gained its popularity among the soviet people.
The sucess of the truck was big, and more than 500 thousand units was made in the span of 20 years, serving amultiple tasks, such as tankers, logging, ambulances, fire trucks, cargo, cranes, and military units, not just being used by the whole Warsaw Pact, but nations such as Cuba, China, North Korea, Venezuela, etc.
It was versatile, its dually configuration enabled a crucial cross-country capacity an its simple mechanics made possible a series of modifications and improvised fixes letting a lot of them to be used till this day on the streets.

The model available for download is one of the 10000 units that war part of the DDR army, being used till 1990, when it was descomissioned and replaced by more powerful and technological western trucks.
