MFNH-1 "Jackrabbit"

330 Mawd06  20 days ago

History
The MFNH-1 was developed by Mawdfly Aviation in the late 1950s and early 1960s as part of a program to explore combat uses for rotary wing aircraft. In 1964, after a long line of prototypes, the Jackrabbit was decided to be the culmination of this program. Despite little initial interest from the US Army and Air Force, as well as from overseas customers, Mawdfly approached the US Navy in May of 1965 to organize a test program of the Jackrabbit in carrier onboard delivery, anti-submarine, and light air support and transport roles. The Navy was very happy with the design, and ordered 200 units to supply both the Pacific and Atlantic Fleets. After a long and distinguished service, it was finally fully retired in 1987.

Design
This is a single rotor, turboshaft driven, medium-lift helicopter. It is able to function in an ASW, COD, Transport, CSAR, and Light Anti-Ship Capacity. This specific specimen is from the 35th Combat Search and Rescue squadron, circa 1972.

Armament
With 2 Pylons, the Jackrabbit can mount torpedoes, rockets, gunpods, light antiship missiles, and ECM/ELINT Pods.

Notes
This is my first experiment with rotary wing aircraft. Its pretty ungainly, but once you get the hang of it its fun to fly. To land, zero out the throttle and "glide" to your landing point.

Throttle: Collective
VTOL: Throttle the Engine.
To fly, set VTOL to the second notch from the top, and use throttle as needed.
