The Il-43 Was created as a stopgap solution for the currently in development Su-25 Grach. Entering service in 1959, the Fatface proved to be very versatile as both an anti-ground and anti-ship aircraft. It remained in service until 1991, when it was retired in favor of more Su-25s.
