In 1940, a design team in Nakajima has hastily made a different design based on the Ki-43 fitted with a different retractable undercarriage, a different weapon layout as well as a different canopy with more frames and an improved engine.
The resulting design looked similar to an A6M excluding the armament and possibly agility and it's role may possibly be a fighter.
