MAE Culloden Mk. IV TACS [X]

Although MAE's [X] series exhibited some of the most modern engineering possible, the company was loathe to discard that which worked. Proving that ideology threefold was the Mk. IV Culloden TACS. The original Culloden long range bomber first saw action in the Second World War and then continued service through successive marks, variously as a light bomber, maritime patrol aircraft, light airlift and counter insurgency aircraft as well as broaching the civilian market, retitled the Gloucester. Although outclassed in modern terms of speed and maneuverability, the Culloden has found a niche as a platform for MAE's TACS turret, or Tactical Area Control System, a 200mm automatic cannon mounted in a fully controllable turret. The aged airframe's inherent stability, low stall speed and high fuel efficiency made it an ideal candidate for the TACS program, where the minimal speed of the plane's propeller engines was actually a blessing, enabling "low and slow" passes over a target area, increasing the firepower saturation period.

Of course, certain modernization modifications were made to the aircraft, including the addition of armour, countermeasure systems, gyroscopic flight assist and an ejection system, but the Culloden was still an old, slow aircraft, nessecitating air superiority before its deployment to a combat zone. Nevertheless, its ability to provide all but unrivalled long term tactical fire support has carried this old soldier on into the modern age.

Activation Group Controls:
