About the L-1011-100 Tristar:

The L-1011-100 (FAA certification L-1011-385-1-14) was the second production model of the L-1011 and first flew in 1975 and featured a new center fuel tank and higher gross weights that increased the aircraft's range by nearly 930 miles (1,500 km). Launch orders for the L-1011-100 were placed by Saudia and Cathay Pacific, for two each, in May 1974. Deliveries began in June 1975.

The variant was also purchased by several airlines with longer-range routes, such as TWA, Air Canada, and BEA (which merged with BOAC to form British Airways). The first two L-1011-100s (serial numbers 1110 and 1116) were delivered new to Saudia with the same fuel capacity as the L-1011-1 (FAA certification L-1011-385-1-14); these were later upgraded to L-1011-200 specification.

About C-FTNG:

C-FTNG was the final L-1011 to be retired by Air Canada. The aircraft had a quieter engine configuration, and a unique fly-by-wire system, and that may be why Air Canada chose the aircraft. Despite all the standard length Tristar being retired by November of 1990, 3 Tristars were reactivated to increase capacity at the turn of the early ‘90’s recession, and the 3 aircraft were used exclusively to Vancouver(YVR/CYVR), Los Angeles (LAX/KLAX), Montreal (YUL/CYUL) and Toronto (YYZ/CYYZ). The aircraft type was retired and sold off to Air Transat by February of 1996.

This specific aircraft had its first flight on 21/10/1973, was 35.6 years old before it got scrapped, and was tested at Palmdale Regional Airport (PMD/KPMD) with the manufacturing serial number 193E-1048. The aircraft was scrapped at Montréal–Mirabel International Airport (YMX/CYMX) in May of 2009.

The aircraft had been in service with the following airlines:
- Air Canada, from 18/11/1973 - 15/1/1996, with the registration C-FTNG.
- it was configured "F20Y268" until 1985, re-configured "F14Y292" 1985 - 1988, re-configured "Y363" 1988 - 1994.
- It was stored at Pinal Airpark (MZJ/KMZJ) 27/11/1990 - 8/4/1994.
- it wasre-configured "C54Y183" 1994
- It was withdrawn from use on 15/1/1996
- Air Transat, from 20/5/1997 - 13/6/2004, with the registration C-FTNG
- It was withdrawn from use and stored at YMX 13/6/2004.
The aircraft was scrapped at Montréal-Mirabel Int’l Airport in ??/5/2009, ending 35.6 years of service.
