Pan Am Flight 103 is a scheduled flight across the Atlantic every Tuesday of Pan Am from London Heathrow Airport to John F. International Airport. Kennedy. On December 21, 1988, the aircraft flying this route, the Boeing 747-121 with registration number N739PA and named Clipper Maid of the Seas by the airline, exploded while flying over Lockerbie, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, England when an explosive weighing about 340-450g exploded in the front cargo compartment, causing a series of events that started the rapid destruction of the plane. 270 people from 21 countries died, including 11 people on the ground[2]. With 189 American passengers killed, the accident became the worst aviation incident in the UK and the worst terrorist attack against the United States until 9/11.
