Saint-class Guided Missile Destroyer

The Saint-class guided missile destroyer is a medium-weight surface combatant designed by SMC Marine to replace multiple classes of warship then in-service with the Grand Saltwater Navy. Eight ships of the classes were ordered, with two entering service shortly after the Siege of Saltwater and the rest following in subsequent years.

Each ship of the class is armed with the Next Generation version of the Lightweight Stand-off Naval Gun System, featuring new stealth gunhouses enclosing twin 203mm naval guns, each with a range exceeding 300 kilometres. Further aft, the Saint-class is armed with three improved RIM-178 Arrowhead point-defence missile launchers, two Phalanx close-in weapons systems, ninety-six strike-length vertical launch cells, forty-eight C-Dome vertical launch cells, ten 12.75 inch lightweight torpedo tubes and an array of electronic warfare and missile countermeasures systems. The main radar system consists of six large active electronically-scanned arrays, with a range of almost 800 kilometres against ballistic missile targets, and can also function as a powerful electronic warfare system in its own right.

Built with a relatively wide beam in relation to its length, the class has exceptional stability at the cost of reduced speed, reaching a maximum speed of around twenty-eight knots and a range of 12,000 kilometres. Each vessel can operate up to two medium-lift helicopters at a time, along with multiple UUVs and USVs that supplement its mine countermeasures and anti-submarine warfare capabilities alongside its hull-mounted and towed-array sonars.

Intended to replace aging and obsolete second-hand destroyers and frigates then in service with the Grand Saltwater Navy, the first two ships in the class would see service defeating the remnants of the Sultan of Makhomar Navy following their failed invasion of Saltwater. Each ship cost around $2.3 billion to build, with some of the later ships being funded by seized Makhomari financial assets.
