Background

The M7 Mammoth is a fourth-generation Federation main battle tank designed by Tadei Heavy Industries (now Tadei Technologies). Designed as a highly mobile main-battle tank for armored ground warfare, the M7 is heavily armed and heavily armored. The Mammoth uses several notable features: A powerful 1750hp AGT1750 multifuel turbine engine, Chobham composite armor, a digital mission management and fire control systems, as well as a separate ammunition storage in a blow-out compartment along with NBC protection for crew safety. While initial models of the M7 were armed with a 105mm L7 gun, variants produced soon after were armed with a 120mm L/44 gun for more firepower. Weighing just short of 73 short tons, it is one of the heaviest main battle tanks in service.

Mammoth tanks can be equipped with the Saab Barracuda camouflage system, which gives the tank concealment against visual, infrared, thermal infrared, and broad-band radar detection. The turret is fitted with two eight-barreled smoke grenade launchers. The launchers can create a thick smoke that blocks both visual and thermal imaging. The engine is also equipped with a smoke generator that is triggered by the driver.

Armor protection was improved by implementing depleted uranium and other undisclosed materials and layouts in its armor. This new armor increased the resistance particularly against kinetic energy rounds but at the expense of adding considerable weight to the tank. Variants incorporating DU armor are designated as the M7A2HA.
