B-41, Experimental Flying Wing

3,839 MEERKAT978  6.4 years ago

Designed as an advanced nuclear bomber in 1947 and first taking flight in 1950, the B-41 was eventually rejected by the USAAF (later USAF SAC) for its low speed, peaking at around 316mph. However, a number were procured in 1955 for research into flying wing designs, later allowing modern stealth aircraft to be designed. Seen here in Daylight paint. This version is the Strategic Bomber, carrying 12x250lb bombs. VTOL for flaps, all other controls normal.

NOTE: due to its design with no external vertical stabiliser, care should be taken at low speeds due to yaw that can occur. This yaw is most obvious during stall recovery.
