GTM-107A "Shucker"

46.0k Graingy  one month ago

The GTM-107A "Shucker" is a highly configurable twin-engine twin-boom multirole aircraft designed and built by Graingy.

First flown in 1941 as a potential "do anything" plane for the Allies, while it never fully caught on as THE twin engine multirole aircraft it certainly enjoyed a respectable career. Frontline strikes, precision bombing, night interceptions, training pilots, and even towing gunnery targets. This aircraft did a bit of everything.

Primary production ended in 1946, with more than 4000 airframes built across a multitude of models. It continues to fly even to this day as a popular warbird.

This unit is a demonstration airframe kept by Graingy for showcasing to potential operators, as well as experimental uses. However, it began its life as a strike aircraft flown by Samual "Wacky" Frank, his distinctive "PUNCH!!" pineapple nose remaining as a mark of its history. Frank flew under the RCAF until December 1945, after which he joined Graingy as a test pilot. He remained with the company for 12 years, being a vocal proponent of its diversity and tolerance program. Today he is one among the dwindling count of WWII veterans still alive.

In some ways this aircraft is a product of its time, however it cannot be denied what it stood for, and what Frank continues to stand for to this day.

@BluesynVNA Hey man not to be mean but please stop saying "First". I do the same thing as you do but only sometimes. If you keep saying it then people will be annoyed by the actions you do.
