Convair CV-990
Hi , after a short break, I decided to build a replica of the Convair 990. This plane has been build to challenge the Boeing 707 and the DC-8 in the 60s.It was planned that the 990 would outclass its rivals in speed ( making it the fastest airliner of its time with a top speed of more than 600 mph ).But in the end, it was a commercial failiure due to its enormous development costs and only a few were sold to airlines like Swissair or Iberia. ( NASA used them too ). My replica of the 990 is a bit slower and has some inaccuracies like the main gear ( which has 4 tires instead of 2 ).But I hope you like it anyway. :D Things to know : AG1-4 = engines 1-4; AG5 + VTOL = gear; AG 7 = engines in the fuselage. NOTE: IT IS IMPORTANT
that you leave the flaps
in the down
position and the fuselage engines at full speed for the whole time of the flight
.Also note that you can steer the plane on the ground
by adding power to the outboard engines
. Have fun ! :D ( This is a fictional Cargolux livery of the 60s based on the real colors Luxair used at this time )

Also: get the best performance out of it by installing the
Smoke trail
mod made byNathanMikeska
. ( https://www.simpleplanes.com/Mods/View/486932/Smoke-Trails )Note that I used this gear on purpose bec. I did not want the ,, more accurate gear`` to collapse under the planes weight ( like my previous plane : the De Havilland Comet ).
