History

After the dissolution of the USAF Air Defense Command, the Air National Guard (ANG) assumed its role. The F-16A/B airframes were converted into the Air Defense Fighter (ADF) standard, adding features like the AIM-7 Sparrow, AN/APX-109 IFF system, and a night-time illumination spotlight. Conversions were carried out at Ogden Air Logistics Center and lasted for 3 years. Once the Soviet bomber threat diminished, many F-16 ADFs were reconverted, stored, or sold to other countries.
