(Fictional) Lore: The 17,6 cm howitzer Kanone/44 was a late 1944 emergency design, created as Germany's western front collapsed. It used a smoothbore barrel to simplify logistics, accelerate production, and cope with the complex shape of the barrel. The tapered profile of the gun boosted velocity without excessive length (relatively), allowing the gun to fire Highly Explosive, Ballistic Capped shells with okayish accuracy. Rushed and unreliable, it was a representative of the last, unsuccessful attempts to enforce usage of mobile heavy firepower before the ultimate loss of the Third Reich. Due to near constant outages of steel and, universally, time for building, only 31 h. K/44 guns were built, with none seeing service, as the trains that transported them to the frontlines for mounting and usage were destroyed by allied carpet bombing.
