The Current Aviation YF-24 was a New Zealand Designed, American Built single-seat, sigle-engine stealth fighter aircraft technology demonstrator designed for the United States Air Force (USAF) and the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF). The design was a finalist in the USAF's Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) competition, battling the Lockheed YF-22 and the Northrop/McDonnell Douglas YF-2 23 for a production contract. Only recently declassified, three YF-24 prototypes were built with the nicknames "Dark Star", "Silver Bullet" and “Green Gump”. Dark Star was used to test radar cross sections and general flight testing whilst Silver Bullet were used weapon system testing. Another aircraft designated the YF-24FWC (Forward Wing Concept) was also built and named “Simple Jack” for testing of the forward swept wing concept.
For unknown reasons the YF-24 was not selected for the ATF competition although it was the test pilots preferred aircraft. The whereabouts and condition of the YF-24 prototypes are currently unknown though there are rummors of operations out of Diego Garcia
