Flyfabrikken JA - 3c Røyskatt

You lads know I just can't let it be, right?

This is a late 30's development of my JA-3 Grevling. The «Røyskatt» - Or Stoat, in English. Intended to carry out a comparable role to the ubiquitous BF-110 or the plucky Bristol Beaufighter.

To this end, our updated kite has two DB-601 liquid cooled engines (ironic, no?) generating in this tune 1200 HP each.

The glazed nose is replaced with a solid one, containing two license built Rheinmetall-Borsig MK 108 30mm cannons and (in a very eclectic mix) four .303 Browning MGs. The wing guns of the bomber variant are removed. The defensive armament of a single Browning .50 cal MG is retained. Norwegians don't do standardization. That is for the Swedes.

The bomb bay is retained, and although the bomb aiming equipment is removed, the bomb shackles are retained (AG7) so that an internal bomb load can be carried, should the mission so require.

The crew compliment remains unaltered at three - the pilot, the air gunner and the radio operator / flight engineer / navigator / general gopher / matpakke unpacker and/or osthøvel operator. The pilot now has the use of a domestically produced reflector gun sight, replacing the inferior bead and pin sight on the bomber variant. The JA-3c also has two under wing points that are capable of carrying either drop tanks of a range of bombs, torpedoes, rockets and other droppable nasties. (Also AG7).

She is a capable kite in her own right, but much like the Beaufighter and the Bf-110, she was sown to be inferior in close turning combat with single engined fighters. However, as a strike fighter and as a boom and zoom interceptor, she was exceedingly useful, scoring several kills against Luftwaffe bombers and causing (limited) havoc among the advancing Wermacht in the early stages of the invasion of Norway.

Controls!

AG1 interior lights + vtol down open bomb bay
AG2 + vtol down - flaps
AG3 Lights
AG4 - not used
AG5 - Activate rear gunner (pitch and roll to move flexible gun mount)
AG6 - not used
AG7 - drop bombs (both internal and under wing)
AG8 - locks controls - keep this active...

Tally ho og lykke til!

PS! Sorry - the last version tore itself apart if you tried to open the bomb bay. This is now no longer an issue.

Thanks! I think this might be my most immersive design yet. You can cruise along, take a look around, look at the view and all without leaving the pilot view. @ChiChiWerx
