WF-50 ''Colibri''

765 Azerrot  one month ago

The Colibri (also known as the Hummingbird) is a tiny bird that is extremely fast for its size and can hover in place. Same for the “WF-50”, it can fly through the narrowest openings and land on the smallest surfaces. You can even try to reach the speed of sound, but beware of flutter!

Instructions

Takeoff

  • Flaps (VTOL slider down) ½
  • Trim wheel down ½
  • Throttle to 95% (100% or open boost valve for afterburner)
  • Rotate at 240 KpH (150 MpH)

    Landing

  • Flaps (VTOL slider down) full

  • Trim wheel down ½
  • Touchdown at 210 KpH (130 MpH)

    Hover mode (VTOL slider up)

  • Throttle 40-45% for neutral hovering

  • Transition to the horizontal flight recommended at 200 KpH (125 MpH)
  • Transition to the hover mode at 200 KpH (125 MpH) – auto breaking when enabled
    AG1 – open/close canopy
    AG2 – Navigational lights
    AG3 – Landing lights
    AG4 – Cockpit lights
    AG7 – Disable control assist
    AG8 – Toggle engine ignition
    Purely visual:
    AG5 – Cabin heating
    AG6 – Cabin air conditioning

Main controls

!

Weapons and radar control

!
!
The aircraft spawns in a takeoff-ready configuration, but you can always manually disable individual systems using the lower panel to the right of your seat
!
- Turning off the ignition stops the engine (it could be also stopped by fuel pump lever located on the engine control block on the left)
- Turning off the hydraulic system disables flaps, airbrakes, landing gear and VTOL control
- Turning off the electric system disables any external lights and cockpit indicators, radar, aiming sight, weapons, some gauges and flight control assist
- Turning off the oxygen system (purely visual) disables oxygen flow indicator and oxygen pressure gauge

And do not try to turn on the radio! It is for your own good!

destroying ice place was hard, but I took down defenses of it only one single time while attempting

@Weisbrich I've searched it up and should say that highly resembles one of the earlier concepts of the "Colibri". I've just decided to "balance" rotors with rotating nozzles

Awesome! What a weird plane! Look up the Parnall Prawn, it's an aircraft with a somewhat similar concept to this one, to a much lesser degree.

very cool VTOL concept - this really deserves a spot light - (and lov that contra rotationg props)

makes me think of a VTOL version of things like the Ryan FR Fireball. very cool.

This thing looks silly, but in a good way.
    Nice.

@XEP3HAETKAK it is not quite a turboprop. In theory "Colibri" has a motorjet (like the powerplant installed on the "MiG-13"/"I-250"). Piston engine drives propelles and the compressor of a jet engine, which does not have its own turbine. Very interesting, yet rudimentary design in real life

@CrazyCatZe that is true. However, cone parts can connect properly only for straight fuselage sections. Anyway , thanks for the tip, I'll try to implement it in my new projects

@Azerrot, you could really save some parts by using the fuselage cone part for some shapes, and fuselage cutting can really cut down part cost on the wing tips

@dabestsock I've tried to optimize the craft before publishing, but it seems like the main cause of the perfomance problems is the tilting rotors and nozzles, which, well, are the main feature of the craft. However, if you have any ideas about optimization, feel free to suggest!

@Azerrot can you make a lower part one or if you can lower the Performance Cost
