M84A MAGLOADER. From METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

8,663 TRS051  5 months ago

The M84A MAGLOADER was a Western main battle tank that was in service around 1984.

Being a main battle tank, it possesses a powerful 105 mm cannon, high mobility and medium armor. It is equipped with a .50 calliber machine gun mounted on the turret. It boasts inferior firepower compared to the TT77 NOSOROG, but has superior armor and a better top speed.

!! History !!

The M84A MAGLOADER was in service since at least 1973, where it was deployed to Lebanon during the country's civil war, managing to easily defeat its counterpart, the TT77 NOSOROG (or at the very least 'monkey model' export versions of it) in combat.[1] It eventually was used with various Western-aligned Private Forces operating in Africa by 1984.

They would often be seen in Tank Units of various Private Forces operating in Africa when Diamond Dogs operated in Africa in 1984. Diamond Dogs was known to eliminate or capture these types of tanks as side-missions during this time period, whether it was as a Tank Unit or, in one case, to guard a particularly high-value soldier.

At least two M84 Magloaders were present at the Nova Braga Airport around the time Venom Snake's chopper, Pequod, was forced into a crash landing, although the vehicles ended up inoperable for the same reason why Pequod crashed: A cloud of metallic archaea sent by the Armored variant of the Parasite Unit in a last-ditch effort to ensure the then-recently escaped Code Talker could not make it back to Mother Base alive had enveloped the airport, causing them to rust heavily.

At least two M84A Magloaders under the employ of the Contract Forces of Africa were utilized in an armored column during a proxy war against the Soviet-backed MPLA, with Diamond Dogs being charged with eliminating the armored column, tanks included.

!! Behind the scenes !!

The M84 is most likely based on one of the numerous proposed prototype tanks that Western forces created in response to post-Vietnam Soviet tank development. This is ironic as there actually is an M84 tank in real life but it was made by the former Yugoslavia and based off the T-72M the “monkey model” of the Soviet T-72 tank which the Yugoslavs upgraded with better fire control and ceramic armor.

The closest real life equivalent to the M84 tank shown in the game is either the prototype British MBT-80 which was eventually cancelled in favor of the Challenger 1, or alternatively one of the American XM1 prototype tank designs which ultimately were developed into the M1 Abrams tank. Of the two it seems to take most inspiration from the latter as much like the Magloader early production models of the Abrams from the 80s were forced also to use the 105mm gun from the earlier M60A3 tank due to their 120mm guns and ammo not being ready yet. Interestingly both the MBT-80 and XM1 were the first tanks to use ceramic Chobham armor something which probably explains the M-84’s supposed greater durability compared to the Soviet in game tank the TT77. Additionally it provides a link to something Huey Emmerich mentions in one his interrogation tapes, namely that he tried but failed to procure ceramic armor for Sahelanthropus before abandoning it in favor of depleted uranium.

Like its Soviet counterpart, the Magloader has multiple variants in game, with the more powerful ones being more prominent in harder missions. These models boast heavier armor and a more powerful gun, powerful enough to one-shot Snake, even just through splash damage. The red colored variant is the most powerful and sturdy model, but the black variants are still just as deadly. The M84A MAGLOADER alongside the STOUT IFV-FS are the only Western vehicles in the game to not have made a prior debut in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.

This is my first Tank. 🗿👍🏻
To control the road of this tank, the controls are like a jackhammer vehicle.

Actually I want to make this tank more detailed like in the game. But because it would take a lot of parts and also performance costs, I didn't make it as detailed as in the game.

Enjoy

@Seeha Because I like this tank. So I took the initiative to make this tank. Even though it's not 100% like in the game.

First, but also this is really great! Keep it up dude!

Also I do have a silly little request can you make it so the "Turret Control" mod can support this cool tank? https://www.simpleplanes.com/Mods/View/1000341/Turret-control , otherwise this tank is great and will get attention!
