This aircraft was made to be a "canon", more refined version of one of my first aircraft, listed here as a predecessor.
The Skofnung is one of the largest aircraft in the Thulean Hyperborean Odinic Realm's air force. A massive floatplane with a compact four-engined configuration that allows half the engines to fail without creating asymmetrical thrust, the Skofnung is a versatile aircraft that is mostly used to attack shipping as a torpedo bomber, minelayer and Tyrving mothership.
While the main target of Skofnung operations nowadays are the northern Hanseatic trading posts that allow the other powers to supply their resistance movements of choice, they have also been used to launch attacks on USS-held Iceland, this being one of few aircraft capable of this feat. As both Iceland and Greenland are seen by the Realm's government as rightful Nordic land, the Realm has been one of the major enemies of the USS in the region. In spite of this though, there's been no alliance between them and the neo-Hansa as, on one side, the Realm ideologically regards both as similarly despicable and, on the other, the USS and the neo-Hansa are more liable to achieving agreements since they're fairly similar as trade-oriented maritime powers with discontinuous land holdings, which eases diplomacy between the two.
While the displayed aircraft is a torpedo bomber, Skofnungs are also used as transport aircraft in the North, where it often is the lifeline of the large bases that serve as anti-insurgency hubs. They are also used to ferry personnel to and from the oil rigs in the North and Barents Sea. The Odinic Realm is among the few polities that are both capable and willing to extract and burn fossil fuels, as there's still a large taboo against it due to the Crumbling. While this is one of the reasons (but not the only one) for the Realm's overall lack of allies, this does allow it to field a larger air force, a more mechanized army and a greater amount of fully engined vessels compared to everyone else in Europe, and can be single-handedly credited with the Realm's continued survival.
The aircraft shown in the entry is fitted as a long-range torpedo bomber, and showcases not only the Skofnung's great carrying capacity, but also a peculiar use of the Tyrving: normally, a Skofnung outfitted with this many torpedos and loaded up to the gills with fuel like this one would be incapable of takeoff. However, by including two extra engines in the form of Tyrvings, this machine can lift a terrifying eight large torpedoes. While it's not the case in this example, Tyrvings can even be fitted with extra fuel tanks instead of a payload and skids to allow them to return to base after takeoff.
Controls:
8: Engines and bomb bay (Throttle and VTOL respectively). Select bomb bay torpedoes.
1, 2: Turrets (VTOL + Throttle)
4: Tyrving engines (throttle)
6, 7: detach Tyrvings.
