Der Nachtfalke (2.0)

10.3k VisionAviation  3.1 years ago
Auto Credit Based on VisionAviation's Nachtfalke (v1.0)

The Nachtfalke is a fictive, WW2 styled jet-bomber, with some inspiration from the Heinkel He 111, Messerschmitt Me 262 for the Jumo styled jet engines and the Arado 234.

This is also the first plane that I made with a "functional" cockpit. I only had space to fit in one gauge on the panel but whatever, who needs gauges anyway amirite?
It also has throttle handles, a gear lever, a yoke, rudder pedals and a flaps lever, all working.

Version 2.0 has:
- More realistic gear animations (fitting the WW2 era hydraulics)
- Better exterior/interior model
- Drop tanks
- Improved flight model
- Improved cockpit model

The attitude gauge was made by ChiChiWerx

This version is equipped with 4 x Boom 50, 6 AG unguided rockets and 2x 20mm cannons.
Also has 2 fuel droptanks which are depleted at about 80% fuel. So you can drop them after that.

Activation 1: Drop the 4 Boom 50's over 1.2 seconds
Activation 2: Drop fuel tanks
Activation 3: Drop rocket pods
Activation 7: Landing lights
Activation 8: All other lights

Trim: elevator trim...
VTOL for flaps.
(The flaps lever in the cockpit moves correctly but the actual flaps can move up as well as I just used the VTOL control surfaces. So bear in mind not to retract the flaps more than VTOL center)

Just like any WW2 era jet, fuel consumption is shocking and it's not actually that fast..

Have fun!

@R2d2hunter It's pretty much useless in Simpleplanes but I just love carpet bombing lol.

I was just checking out some of your other builds and I really love that they can all carpet bomb really nicely.

So I just bombed some AA tanks and 1 survived and as I turned around for another pass to take it out with my the plane just exploded so nicely.

@ChiChiWerx Thanks! Appriciate your comment a lot! Do you know how to limit flight surfaces though? I tried to do it the same way as with rotators with min 0 max 1 but didn't work for me.

Quite fun, plus the attitude indicator really works quite well and fits into the time period’s aesthetic. That’s what I like about the fictional builds, they tend to be more “fun focused” and don’t get bogged down by requirements to reflect the RL performance figures. It does accelerate a little too quickly for a WWII Luftwaffe jet/early turbojet, plus you should use a range of 0 to -1 (or 1) for your flaps so that they don’t actually retract beyond the up position and it needs more trim authority, but this one is quite good overall, not ridiculous by any means. Nice work.
