XP-05

With Germany beginning to ramp up bombing campaigns on mainland Britan, they needed a new bomber interceptor to try to take down the enemy bombers before they could reach their targets, and so, the XP-05 “Herdstang” was designed for the job. Taking the fuselage of the P-51-B, it doubled up the engines and moved them to the wings, opening up lots of space in the nose for guns to be mounted. This space gave room for 6 .50 cals and 4 7.62 mm machine guns to be mounded in the center. But a problem arose with the engine mounting, on takeoff and landing the engines could strike the ground with the P-51s taildragger configuration, so to solve this a front landing gear was added aswell and more weight to the nose so the aircraft wouldn’t fall backwards. But this aircraft was never put into mass production, leaving this aircraft to be be forgotten.
