Sukhoi I-2M-92

11.1k AircraftoftheRedStar  6.1 years ago

An experimental heavy fighter with an unusual engine configuration. Two 20mm ShVAK cannons were placed in the upper nose, six .30 cal ShKAS machine guns in the lower nose and sides of the forward fuselage, and a further two ShVAK cannon in the wing roots. Because only a top view drawing is shown, landing gear is unknown. It could have been tricycle as the wing is centrally mounted on the fuselage.

History:
At the end of November 1942, the Sukhoi Design Bureau was developing a twin-engine fighter of a very original design. Two air-cooled M-92 engines (designed take off power 2,200 hp) were placed in the fuselage and a special gear rotated the propellers located on the wing. By the end of 1942, all work on the project was discontinued.
