The Dainsleif is the main tactical bomber of the Thulean Hyperborean Odinic Realm. This relatively nimble and small aircraft can be contrasted with the Hanseatic Skate: both planes show the blurred line separating a tactical bomber from a heavy fighter. Where the Skate is a ponderous machine with a strong frontal armament and a bomb bay, the Dainsleif forgoes the latter, unlike many modern bombers. Together with the engine layout, this results in a relatively small aircraft, capable of operating from ancient road runways.
Armed with 6 0.55 tum machine guns in the wing roots and two extra pair in ventral and tail settings. However, it has no gunners to dissuade from frontal attack, unlike most multi-seat combat aircraft. Nevertheless and in spite of it's slow speed compared to most bombers lower South, the Dainsleif is a reasonably survivable design with proper tactics.
As the second machine in the pictures show, this aircraft is often used in other roles. In this case, the second bomber is shown towing three "Tyrving" kamikaze flying bombs. While this may bring forth a comparison with the similar Fortian practice across the Atlantic Ocean, there social context behind Hyperborean suicide troops is completely different: Senectude is regarded as a privilege conferred only upon the intellectual castes, the leadership and an appointed Elder Council that serves as advisors from each caste in positions of power made up of illustrious persons within their careers. Outside of this relatively small circle, everyone else is to die when they grow too old to work or instruct, typically at 55. As all military castes exist to fight for the race, they are disposed of by sending them on sacrificial tasks. For pilots, there's two options: either manned bombs like the Tyrving, or flying assault gliders in one-way attacks to hostile lands and joining the rest of the complement in fighting to the death.
In both guises and more, the Dainsleif is a common sight both along the Danish and Baltic fronts against the Blessed Germanic Empire, the neo-Hansa and their allies.
