1949 XVI Liberator Hun Dread

891 2Cav19K  5.4 years ago

After the war, surplus aircraft mostly found their way to scrap yards, but every so often, a lucky machine would find new life in air racing. The “Hun Dread” (get it?) was one such aircraft. Modified in Murica, its wings and horizontal stabs were clipped, and a more streamlined, razorback cockpit was applied. The fuel tanks were reduced in size and sub sequentially volume to improve aerodynamics and reduce weight. Other weight reductions to the empennage improved top speed and handling.

The cannon was kept because MURICA that’s why.
