During the Berlin crisis, East Germany needed a capable and heavy bomber to out-compete the Bombing raids that America was known for. The B-52 was the inspiration and competitor for the Sturm. East Germany Contacted the Private Military Manufacturers known as X Industries to put in an order for a heavy bomber able to scare the American assets scattered through Europe.
The Order was sent in 1966 and then proceeded to go through the years evolving with the technology that kept evolving with it. During this time, East Germany made requests for a Aviation company to assist in the building of the plane. VEB Flugzeugwerke Dresden was an East German Company that assisted with the Development of the Sturm. They provided the engines and materials for the frame of the aircraft. X industries, the workforce to work on the aircraft, the first of the Laser guided bombs, and various internal components of the aircraft.
The aircraft was finished on March 15th, 1968.
The Order was never claimed by EG because the Soviet Union was not happy that EG was trying to increase its fleet with bigger bombers under their noses.
The Aircraft was held in a Hangar somewhere in East Germany and was forgotten. Later the aircraft was scrapped and known as a failed experiment. In a fire in Dresden, the files, blueprints, and all documentation was burned, making the Strum completely deleted from history.

-Side Notes-

If this plane looks familiar it is because it is based off the Belkan Bm-335 Lindwurm from Ace Combat Zero.
