For TheDesignate’s Pacific War Challenge, the Japanese Aichi M6A Seiran. An interesting aircraft built for an interesting reason, to be launched from a submarine. As Japan started building I-400 class aircraft carrier submarines, the Japanese knew they would need aircraft to go with it. When trying to modify existing aircraft didn’t work, Aichi made the M6A purpose built for the Submarine. Able to fold up in the hanger, it would be unfolded and launched by catapult into the air. Although not intentionally built for recovery, the pilot could land in the water and be craned back onto the sub. With detachable floats (AG 4) you can blow off the extra weight and drag and become more faster and maneuverable. Also carries a small bomb or torpedo, for what ever the mission calls. Only 1 example of this plane remains in a museum in Washington D.C. Make sure trim is all the way down and pulling the stick all the way back as you take off, so you don’t nose dive in the water. Landing is pretty forgiving, stay low and slow as you land. Trigger for guns is the stick on the left in VR.
