MIG-22

The MIG-22 is the fourth aircraft in my 'Alternate Reality Cold War' series of fighter jets. The MIG-22 represents the Soviet competitor to the F-6. The MIG-22 is a multirole day fighter, much like the F-6, and was further built on the turn fighter concept. Unlike the F-6, the MIG-22 is armed with the same armament as the MIG-16; two wing mounted cannons fitted close to the nose of the aircraft for better accuracy. Overall the MIG-22 is the better dogfighter and F-6 pilots should be wary of getting close to these jets. I hope you enjoy the MIG-22! Fly safely and as always, have fun!!

Back-story: The Korean War ends with many lessons being learned in the process. The lessons the Russians learned were that they were origianally winning and that their origional design worked. The Russians however fell into trouble when the F-88 dominated the air over Korea. In order to counter this, the Russians decided to continue work on perfecting the turn fighter concept. They eventually came to the conclusion that the air to air missile would be a supporting factor but that all fights would end in dogfights. With this in mind, they introduced the MIG-22, an aircraft capable of fighting at long range and dogfighting at close range with anything the U.S had at the time.
